The easiest way to think about shower steamers is to in fact, think bath bombs, except for your shower.

You can find them in a variety of aromas, from skin safe fragrances to all natural essential oils. Essential oils for years have been touted and linked to promoting relaxation. Helping to relieve symptoms of both stress and anxiety.

Once placed in the shower, the steam helps to enhance the aroma of the essential oils or fragrances. Unlike traditional bath bombs, they tend also tend to last longer because they are not completed submerged in water.

Why is this a good thing you ask?

Simply, the aromas generally last longer.

Like bath bombs, when water comes in contact with the shower steamers, they begin to fizz, bubble, & release intoxicating aromas into the air.

Where Can I place my aromatherapy shower steamer?

The answer is really anywhere in the shower. It’s the steam and hot water that will help dissolve the steamers. Some instruct customers to simply place the steamer in the corners of the tub or somewhere on the floor of the tub.

This will work just fine, but may result in the shower steams dissolving quicker.

Alternatively, place the steamer on a ledge, or higher up off the floor, allowing just the steam to dissolve the steamer. This mat also aid in the aromas come in closer contact with your nasal passages. However, with some steamers this may result in to slow a process.

It’s really about finding a good quality product and then figuring out what you prefer in this stetting.

Why can’t I just place a bath bomb in the shower? What’s the difference?

Theoretically you could simply take a bath bomb and place it in the shower. However, it may not recommended!

Firstly, in many cases bath bombs contain carrier oils like coconut oil, sunflower oil, sweet almond or even shea butter. These oils will result in a very slipper tub. In a shower setting this can be very dangerous. Trying to stand on a wet, slippery porcelain tub is probably not the best idea.

The other major difference is that shower steamers are often more concentrated as far as there fragrances, specifically as essential oils are concerned.

The point of shower steamers is to release a consistent aroma in the air , utilizing the steam to help disperse that aroma. Fragrances/essential oils in bath bombs are often less concentrated because you are soaking in these oils. Some oils can be irritating to the skin.

What’s in a aromatherapy or shower steamer bomb?

Steamers are definitely a great DIY projects. They can make for a cool gift as well. However, much like bath bombs can be a little finicky to get just right.

If you’re using them in the morning before a long day, you may choose a shower steamer with a focus on citrusy scent(s) for a quick pick-me-up. Individuals even swear by these to help clear nasal passages and nasal congestion.
